City of Southfield: Brochure Design

One of the standout projects featured on this website is the branding for a fashion show, an event that provided me with the opportunity to network with influential figures in the City of Southfield, including the Mayor and the Director of Public Relations. To my delight, the latter expressed how impressed he was with my work and handed me his business card, encouraging me to reach out.A month later, giving him time to unwind from his responsibilities, I followed up, and he introduced me to our first collaboration: designing a new tri-fold brochure for the City Council.Next, I was provided with the instructions, content, and the city's identity manual to begin working on the design. For the first impression, I created a composition that balanced the formal tone of government with a playful twist to reflect the artistic side of graphic design. This was the first option I presented:

While the Director of Public Relations was pleased with this initial design, the final approval rested with the President of the City Council. The next day, I received feedback: they wanted a more formal design while retaining some of the original shapes. Additionally, they requested the City’s shield to be added to the front, along with adjustments to the layout and text. I carefully followed these instructions, and the final approved design is as follows:

While my initial vision didn’t align with the City Council’s needs this time, I believe this project demonstrated my ability to adapt to a client’s specific requirements. The fact that this process happened with such an important client makes me even more satisfied with the overall learning experience.
